NAWI Water Data Analysis and Management System (Water DAMS)
Provides free access to data generated from efforts funded by the National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI) and supporting projects and partnerships.
The NAWI Water DAMS Mission
Our mission is to provide free, universal access to all relevant data generated from projects funded by National Alliance for Water Innovation (NAWI) and supporting partners, to protect NAWI's investment in research and development through proper data management and the open transfer of knowledge, to fuel innovation, reduce duplication of effort, and promote scientific discovery in water desalinization and wastewater recovery sectors.
Data on Water DAMS is automatically disseminated to a network of data sharing partners. Publishing data on Water DAMS is a great way to get the word out about your research!
NAWI is funded, in part, by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), whose philosophy on data and information dissemination is a guiding principal for Water DAMS.
To accomplish this, Water DAMS follows FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) and FARR (FAIR, AI Readiness & Reproducibility) guiding principles. Data on Water DAMS is discoverable, free to use and access, and standardized to increase its utility. Water DAMS metadata is machine-readable, universally accessible, and ready for AI and machine learning applications.
Data Curation
Our data curators review the metadata provided with each data submission for accuracy, completeness, and relevance to the data submitted. Time needed to complete the curation process can vary from submission to submission, depending on the completeness of the metadata and the number of resources. The Water DAMS team does not review nor validate the quality of data submitted. Submitted data should be reviewed, by the submitting organization or a peer review, prior to publishing on the Water DAMS.
Data submissions are reviewed for:
- Relevance to ensure the metadata is descriptive of the data submitted
- Appropriateness to make sure they are suitable for eventual public release and do not inadvertently contain personally identifiable information (PII) or other obviously inappropriate content
- Completeness to ensure no critical components are missing
More information can be found in the FAQs and in Data Management and Best Practices for Submitters and Curators.
